The Workshop on the Application of Bionic Engineering(WABE) was held on August 18 –19, 2013 at Jilin University. It was organized by the Key Laboratory of Bionic Engineering (KLBE), Ministry of Education, Jilin University and the Office of Secretariat, ISBE. 20 representatives from 12 universities and 6 countries attended the workshop. Prof. Luquan Ren, the Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Standing Vice President of ISBE, came to the workshop and had a meeting with all the representatives. Prof. Zhiwu Han from Jilin University chaired the workshop and delivered a welcome speech.

Prof. Julian FV Vincent from University of Bath (UK), Prof. Shujun Zhang from University of Gloucestershire (UK), Prof. Thomas Stegmaier from ITV Denkendorf (Germany), Associate Prof. Ana Moita from Portugal High-tech Institute, and Prof. Jianqiao Li from Jilin University (China) had reports at the workshop. On August 19, some scholars including Prof. Yuying Yan from the University of Nottingham (UK), Prof. Xun Chen from Liverpool John Moores University(UK), Prof. Limei Tian and Associate Prof. Hangfu Sun from Jilin University gave academic reports to the teachers and students of KLBE. The representatives visited the Laboratory and Office of Secretariat, ISBE after the workshop, they gave a lot of valuable suggestions about the future development of the laboratory and the society.

The workshop provided a platform for scholars from different countries to exchange ideas. It would promote the academic cooperation of scholars worldwide and put forward the application and development of bionic engineering.
